Rescue Dog Transition Support
Help your rescue dog settle into their new home, build confidence and adjust to family life at a pace that feels safe and manageable for them.
Adopting a rescue dog can be incredibly rewarding, but settling into a new environment can bring challenges for both dogs and their adopters. Every dog arrives with their own experiences, needs and coping strategies, and it isn't always possible to know their full history.
My approach focuses on understanding your dog's individual needs, establishing supportive routines and helping you recognise what your dog is communicating, so you can build a positive relationship without putting unnecessary pressure on them.
Areas of support may include:
Establishing routines, rest and settling at home.
Creating safe spaces and supporting your dog's need for distance and choice.
Understanding body language and recognising signs of stress, fear and relaxation.
Managing visitors, household activity and new experiences.
Building confidence and helping your dog adjust to their new environment.
Introducing enrichment and appropriate everyday activities.
Establishing foundations for engagement, lead walking and positive handling.
Monitoring progress and identifying when additional support may be needed.
What's included?
1. Free 15-minute introductory call
An opportunity to discuss your rescue dog's needs, ask questions and establish whether this package is suitable for your circumstances.
2. Initial consultation — 75 minutes
An in-depth discussion of your dog's known history, current behaviour, health considerations, daily routine and home environment. We'll explore your expectations, identify any immediate challenges and agree on practical priorities.
This will usually take place in person at your home, where appropriate, allowing me to meet your dog and consider their environment and routine in context. However, I recognise that some rescue dogs may find visitors in the home stressful or overwhelming. Where a home visit isn't suitable, we can arrange the consultation online or, where appropriate, meet in a neutral outdoor space where your dog feels more comfortable.
Where information about your dog's past is missing, we'll focus on what you can observe about their needs and behaviour now, rather than making assumptions about their previous experiences. The format and location will be agreed in advance, based on what is most suitable for you and your dog.
3. Individualised transition plan
You'll receive written recommendations tailored to your dog and household. This will cover suitable routines, rest, safe spaces, management strategies, enrichment and achievable short-term goals to help your dog adjust at a manageable pace.
4. Follow-up session — 30 minutes
We'll review how your dog is settling in, discuss any difficulties and work through practical recommendations together. This session provides an opportunity to adjust routines, develop suitable everyday skills and make changes based on your dog's responses.
5. Progress review — 45 minutes
We'll assess your dog's progress, discuss what is working well and identify any areas that may need further support. You'll receive guidance on next steps and maintaining a supportive environment as your dog continues to adjust.
Appointments and travel
This package is primarily delivered through in-person consultations and practical coaching, allowing me to meet your dog and help you make appropriate adjustments within your home environment.
Home visits and in-person appointments are available within approximately 10 miles of Gainsborough, subject to suitability and availability. Additional travel charges may apply beyond this area and will be agreed before booking.
Telephone and video consultations may be available where appropriate, particularly for progress reviews or follow-up guidance.
Is this the right package for my dog?
Rescue Dog Transition Support is designed for adopters who want to help their dog adjust to a new home, establish supportive routines and build positive foundations for the future.
There is no fixed timeline for settling in. The aim is to understand your dog's individual responses and support their progress without overwhelming them or expecting too much too soon.
If your dog is experiencing more significant fear, anxiety, reactivity or other complex behavioural difficulties, we can discuss whether Behaviour and Welfare Support or referral to another suitably qualified professional would be more appropriate.
If you're unsure which service best suits your dog, we can discuss your needs during your free introductory call.
